EROI is king

I've been expecting the cost of flights to skyrocket soon too. Seems obvious.

I'm surprised you didn't discuss the social / familial implications of this. We're at peak familial globalization. Many, many people live a plane's ride away from their extended families, have extended families scattered all other large countries or the globe.

I kind of suspect that the skyrocketing rates of immigration and encouragement of young people to move to cities away from extended family may have been a strategy to destabilize families and communities before cutting off access to flights (except to the very wealthy, as you note).

I wonder if this falls under Mcgenics?

Ha. Yeah.

In the long run, for those who do reproduce, hopefully it will mean a return to extended families and communities. Ethnogenesis over multiple generations. Should be interesting. In 100+ years my area is going to have some very beautiful White/Persian/Latin/East Asian/Indian/Filipino/Jewish/Etc people and hopefully enough old-world cooking skills to survive skyrocketing food prices.

Do you think the Orangeman’s sabre-rattling over Greenland will endanger or enhance American power?

Peak oil LOL. Slate and Salon, is that you? Remember Chimpy McBu$hitler, the president who was literally Adolf Hitler?

New methods discovered far more oil than was ever thought to exist. It doesn’t matter, that myth was just like global warming, a hoax intended to force us to adopt socialism globally. It’s always an emergency and always will be.
