Someone made a mod called "Thatcher's Techbase" that's pretty fun. Relatively easy to set up and get running on basically anything.

Apparently Kirk’s assassin wrote pro-trans and anti-fascist stuff on the cartridges, though we’ll find out for sure soon enough. Doesn’t really change much, except that ‘trans shooter phenomenon’ narrative on the right will get moderately stronger. And no I don’t think Canadians (especially Torontonians) have nearly the capacity for political violence as the US, though something like 5% of the people from my high school class posted celebrations of Kirk’s death.

You are mixing up the Church shooting and the Kirk shooting. Kirk's murderer has not been caught last I have heard.

Everything is pointing towards another trans shooter.

Not so, not really. Nothing on the rounds points to specific leftist or right wing politics, but rather a uniquely Gen Z, chronically online set of radical beliefs. On the mass shooting scale, this guy is much closer to the ideology-less school shooters than to any Marxist bomber or Christchurch shooters. The inscriptions on the rounds are entirely ironic, including "Bella Ciao" and "Hey fascist, catch!" the former have been ironically co-opted by internet pseudo-fascists (?) referred to as "groypers" and the latter being a direct meme from a popular video game (the arrows are a sequence of inputs in game to call in a specific airstrike). It's complete radical ideology soup and mostly impenetrable to anyone not thoroughly versed in internet hyper-irony.

Edit: Also "trans" was initially thrown around because of TRN being stamped into the rounds. TRN is stamped in because it's the marking of the ammunition plant the rounds came from, not to express ideology.

They haven’t caught them yet but there’s a leak by Steven Crowder from the DOJ that describes the rifle and the inscriptions.

Edit: based on the current photos of the shooter Crowder’s leak seems less likely to be accurate

Your baseline assumption here is historical time is linear and predictable. But that isn't the case as humans in societies are embodied in a complex dynamic non linear system with individual people as active agents who are not predictable on a micro level, and thus anomalies happen which can amplify quickly, which means things are quiet until suddenly they aren't.

actually linear is the opposite of cyclical. You understand that cyclical events are "non-linear"? You're just saying words.

This wasn't random. There are thousands (at least) on social media and on mainstream media celebrating this and saying it is just the beginning. This is completely different from any right-wing attack. Right-wingers never united in celebrating any of those attacks (except maybe the capitol hill thing, which was very different). This is not an isolated event, it comes weeks after the trans shooting of the Catholic church (and daily church burnings, etc).

there's no "daily church burnings" the problem here is your dissociation from reality, not the facts on the ground.

It's because we live in an 'old' society, youthful vitality that in the past would have created riots etc is gone for now. That's why there is less civil rest, terrorism, assassinations etc.

“Toronto is profoundly boring. It is an Asian city.”

This is false and absurd. First of all, only about a third of Toronto is Asian, and that’s further divided into East and South Asians. Second, even if you’re using violence as a metric for what’s interesting, have you not seen the widespread rioting in Nepal right now? Teenagers have led a social-media fueled uprising that has ousted the Prime Minister and led to the deaths of dozens already.

North East Asian ruled by whites*. I should come up with a specific term, like the Yangtzeans.

Expand full comment
Sheluyang Peng's avatar

Still false. East Asians make up less than 15% of Toronto’s population, so it’s hard to say that it’s anywhere close to being an “Asian city.” If it is boring, perhaps it’s because of the other 85%+ of the population.

Also, Toronto’s mayor right now is an Asian woman named Olivia Chow, so Toronto is not exactly “ruled by whites.” You are making stuff up to slander Asians.

I find your stance on violence kind of contradictory, like, you clearly don't want the social and political instability that comes with extreme polarzation and social mistrust in institutions and general decay, but on the other hand, you reject the "extreme pacifism" of european and east asian societies (notavle for theit total firearms ban and walkable cities, to name their most visible policy decisions). How would your ideal city look like, then? I stand by the Asian model, by the way, even if it's more boring in a real life scale. Better deaths in videogames than in the streets.

The Asian model is fragile. Balance.

PD: Not a hostile question by the way. I'm not trying to be like half of your comment section that only wants to to trash you for whatever reason. Honest.

The reason why Asians are so docile is because they are extremely authoritarian. But authoritarian societies are more fragile, and less creative. I think the optimal society would be Renaissance Italy, with a high degree of violence and intelligence.

Fair enough. Still, I still back the East Asian custom (best represented by Japan) of no Gun laws. Most violent stuff would be knife fights/machetes and good ol’ fists. Would yo agree to that?
