Why are some people fat, and others chiseled?
The simplest explanation is that some people eat more than others. But why?
Why do people eat more food than they need to live, when this excessive eating results in obesity? You could say, “well, it’s our instinct to overeat, because we used to starve to death.” That would make sense if everyone was obese, but they are not. Even within the same family, some people are obese, while others are not. Instinct is not some kind of universal, all-powerful force. Why do some people have greater instincts than others?
Are anorexic people hungry? It seems like a silly question — of course they are! But if anorexic people are hungry, then it seems that obesity is not a question of physicality at all, but a pure question of psychology. How do you view yourself? What is your motivation? What do you want, and how much do you want it?
The other question I have is this: why aren’t obese people more energetic, since they have more reserves of energy? Calories in, calories out. Accordingly, obese people should need less sleep; they should be more enthusiastic; they should be more bubbly and excitable.
