Last year, I created an accountability group. I have received overwhelming positive feedback so far. I think the method is simple and foolproof. Accountability can be hard, embarrassing, and for people who are afraid of criticism, it can be traumatic. That is a fear I can empathize with. But if you truly understand the process, the obvious benefits will give you the courage to overcome that fear.
When I started this project, I thought it was “self explanatory,” that people would “just get it.” For people who can read my mind, that might be true! But I’d like to spell out my philosophy on this project, in the hopes that others can steal my ideas and start their own accountability groups. Those who already “get it” can skip this lecture. But not everyone is a mind reader. At the risk of over communicating, I want to give you a chance to hear my thoughts on exactly what I’m doing and why.
My plan was not to create yet another “internet community.” Rather, my plan was to follow a proven method for effective change, growth, and the development of mature competence. I don’t believe it takes any special aptitude, but it does take a willingness to try, and a commitment to follow through.
The following is my philosophy of this particular mission. There is no obligation to read it, and there is no test at the end. But, for those who are interested in my vision, this is a first draft for you.
