In 2016, Trump was willing to risk his reputation in order to win an election. It was a Hail Mary pass. If he lost, he could have started a media corporation (similar to InfoWars or Newsmax) and recoup his losses. The Democrats would not have sued him.
However, by 2020, he had a different agenda.
