The structure of this personal post will be as follows: what I have accomplished in the past year; where I need to improve; my remaining plans for 2024; and my long term plans for 2037.
SIX MONTHS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Started Substack. Published 90k words in 3 months.
Started accountability group, going strong 37 weeks.
Drove 20,000 miles.
Moved my possessions 4 times in 5 months.
Went camping without a tent. Three days of solo hiking, 20+ miles.
Car registered, inspected, vacuumed, repaired.
Passport obtained.
Lost my car keys on a multi-hour hike, prayed to God and found them.
Promised to call my parents every week (not quite there yet).
Met a new friend in the rain at a cafe.
Visited old friends.
Declined a job offer in favor of an adventure.
Dug a ditch by hand. Removed insulation out of the crawlspace. Powerwashed, stained, scrubbed, cut, swept and vacuumed.
Got a giant whiteboard.
Gave gifts: massage gun, rug, protein snacks, piano, cooking-pot, wooden spatulas.
Saw the sunrise and sunset. Ran naked on the beach and felt the ecstasy of the ocean.
Taught my gf how to cook. Took care of her when she was sick.
Danced with someone I love. Started a couple’s journal.
Read a 368 page book (Birth of Philosophy). Bought a portable standing desk.
Visited 20 different properties for sale.
Pushed a homeless man in a wheelchair out of the mulch and found his EBT card.
Overcame fear of confrontation. Re-committed to God. Had a merry Christmas.
Asked for a stranger's number off the street.
Set up a temporary office/studio.
Articulated my needs as respect, control, and challenge.
WHERE I NEED TO IMPROVE
Write every day. Write more. Write with purpose. Don’t go all over the place. Stay on task. Don’t get overwhelmed by big projects. Break up big tasks into smaller ones.
Spend more time celebrating victory and less time predicting failure.
Stop fearing failure. Embrace failure as the path to victory. Don’t fear the worst.
Make more friends.
Don’t feel obligated to help people who won’t help themselves.
Stop trying to fix other people.
Stop getting dragged into other people’s problems.
“Stop planting fruit trees where people mow their lawns.”
Take control of what is within my control. Forgive gracefully.
Take responsibility. Don’t blame others when things go bad.
Acknowledge rage and frustration in seclusion and withdrawal.
Avoid sleep deprivation.
Read books.
Don’t passively consume news.
Organize space.
Track habits consistently. Journal more.
Exercise consistently. Stretch consistently. Go to the gym. Track exercise.
Pay attention. Listen carefully. Respect others.
Limit seeking attention and validation.
Be on time, with meetings and dates.
Get rid of unnecessary things that don’t serve God.
Be disciplined in speaking and writing. Less rambling, ranting, monologuing. Do not get distracted and off-topic. Stay focused.
Don’t take criticism personally. Acknowledge they do the best she can with what she has. Don’t get so offended. Don’t be reactionary.
Improve self-talk.
Be decisive.
Have high and strict standards with myself and others.
Don’t use logistical thinking to solve an emotional conflict.
Be kind, polite, and warm.
Acknowledge boundaries and limitations as human, as acceptable, and as tolerable.
Affirm good intentions.
Stop trying to win arguments or score points. Instead, create understanding.
Embrace conflict and confrontation.
Be diplomatic rather than insulting.
Work on back and shoulder pain.
Get the phone numbers of strangers.
Tell people that I am not a free therapist and stop trying to be one.
UNFULFILLED PLANS
Make one new friend.
Fix air conditioning in car.
Publish part 2 of Israel essay.
Publish part 1 of book review.
Publish part 1 of history book.
Publish witch essay.
PLANS FOR 2024
Write 30,000 words a month.
Exercise 3 times a week.
365 days of journaling.
Call family members every week.
Hike 30 miles.
Run every week.
14 YEAR PLAN (to complete by 2037):
Add 1 guy each year to the consistent core for the accountability group, 20 total.
Worship God.
Read the Zoroastrian canon.
Publish 300,000 words per year, 4 million words total.
